Hello everyone! So far our trip has been a success. We arrived in Santiago after having been delayed a bit in New York. From the airport we went to the capital city of Santo Domingo. Students were fascinated with the congested streets and all the motorcycles on the road.
The next day we visited the spectacular presidential palace. Our tour of the palace was excellent and students were able to see and walk through most of the rooms used by the Dominican Government. From here we visited a local high school near the palace. We were well received by the students and staff with a traditional dance, question and answer session, and a tour of the school. We exchanged gifts and many of the students exchanged e-mail addresses and phone numbers.
On Friday we went back up north to the resort and we were able to eat a traditional Dominican meal of rice, beans, chicken, salad, shrimp, etc. We arrived at the resort and have been busy ever since. We've been to the market in downtown Sosua, a bat cave off the coast, snorkeling, to the botanical gardens at the top of a mountain reached only by cable car, and we've spent some time on the beach at the resort. So far all is going well. We'll try to get some pictures on as soon as possible. Hope all is well back home!
