Take a look at the attached document to see the Elementary kids skiing at Belleayre in 2007

Our last ski day is scheduled for March 21. It's a Wednesday. If you can make it, our skiers have grown by leaps and bounds. Almost all skiers are going up on the chair lift.

The first graders have completed the Junior Great Books series. For the remainder of the year we will be focusing on phonics, phonemic awareness, sight words, reading fluency, vocabulary, and grammar.
Currently we have been doing the short vowel (a) and the sound (ck), parts of a book, sentences and word order in sentences.
In the Elementary computer lab, we have covered vocabulary and fluency by using the software READ NATURALLY.

The first components of the Author's Study are due on Friday March 16. Students will be handing in a letter to their author where they comment on ONE book that they have read. Also due, is a summary of the first book that they have read. They can visit http://www.kidsbookshelf.com or http://kidsread.com/authors/write

The second summary is due on March 23!

In addition, we are working on creating skits (writing dialogue) about the inventors the students researched in Science. My group has created a version of "Inventor Survivor". The skits will be performed on April 3. We need props. Donations of light colored flat sheets will be painted as backdrop scenery. We need backyard tiki torches, a large shoe box, and a steamer trunk.

My Reading group has one chapter left in our book that they will read on Monday March 12 and a quiz will follow on Tuesday March 13.
After we finish this book, we will be taking time to work on our author studies until Mrs. White's group is ready to join us for a combined teaching of Shakespeare!
