Notice that using lowercase in the extension(mov) results in the file opening in a browser page using the installed plugin.

Notice that a window opens up asking what application you would like to use.

Please take note that the upper/lower case state of your media extensions ( eg. ***.jpeg; ***.mov, etc.) will effect how the file will appear in the viewer's browser when left-clicked. For it to smoothly appear in a new page of the browser, using the plugins available, make sure all extentions are in lower case before you upload them to the server.

The PDF file linked here for podcasting or direct reading and downloading was created in Microsoft Word and then "printing" to PDFCreator. Once it is installed you can print to it in your printer selection and it will turn your word, html, or most any file into the portable document format that can be podcast from your blog. This format will work well for posting worksheets or other documents (you could create a picture gallery using Word or other software) your audience may need to printout. Anyone wishing to see the documents will need to have the free Adobe Reader installed on their computer.

Download Adobe Reader here:

The PDFCreator software can be downloaded from:

Here is a short audio clip linked to this entry.

You can download an open Source program to create audio files from:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows

Notice that there are Linux and Mac versions available, too.
Make sure that you download the MP3 plugin so that you can export/save your audio creation in MP3 format. The plugin will come in a zip file in which there are many files. You'll only need one, a file called "lame_enc.dll" You can place it anywhere on your computer, but a handy, logical place would be in the plugins folder in C:\Program Files\Audacity\Plug-Ins\.

Upload the file for Podcast and it will appear as a link in your blog entry.

When making a blog entry you can choose "simple," or "advanced."

The default entry is "simple" and is used to post an HTML text entry. It may be a good idea to create your entries in your favorite document creator/editor before you log in, and copy paste the contents in the entry field. Your login is timed and if you take too long to create your entry you will go past the alotted login time window. At that point you will not be able to save it.

Clicking the "advanced" button allows you to upload media to the server and a link to it will appear after "Podcast:" below your entry. An individual can subscribe to your blog's media podcasts by clicking the RSS/Podcast link at right bottom of the blog page, if they have Itunes installed on their machine. Itunes is a free download from apple in either PC or Mac platform.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Quicktime will be automatically installed as well.

The only media formats that can be downloaded by Itunes as a Podcast from your weblog are mov (quicktime movies) MP3 and AAC(the two most economical sound formats), and PDF (use the open source PDFCreator)files.
